(Kodi:) We were thrilled to see that Anthrocon was recognizing the San Diego chicken! I think he’s a stellar example of true professionalism! Midwest Furfest prides itself on first and foremost, recognizing the achievements and leadership within our community directly – I would never say never, but at least right now, our focus is more directed at recognizing achievement within the fandom (Patch:) Anthrocon’s GOH was the San Diego Chicken who is credited as making sports mascots popular. (Kodi:) I think it could certainly interest some of our attendees, though I don’t expect they would ever formally involve us – their hall of fame seems to be more tailored to sports mascots, not amateurs. (Patch:) Do you think it will bring interest in what furries do, or even involve them? (Kodi:) I was aware of the hall of fame opening, though we didn’t have anything to do with it – such a small percentage of our attendees perform in costume (it’s a large number, but not normally more than 25% of con attendees) (Patch:) Have you guys heard of the National Mascot Hall of Fame opening nearby in the Chicago area? Would you have anything to do with it? He isn’t “banned” and can attend the con.Q&A with Kodi, MFF media contact and Director of Programming & Marketing.

A con can pick whoever they want, and they just chose not to pick him friends and fame aren’t supposed to overrule quality or board decisions for approval. There’s only a vague official statement citing declining attendance, so pointing blame is untrustworthy. It took this long to accumulate wider attention. Bad behavior has been in plain view for years with no apologies. A prominent performer in the fandom is being examined for poorly representing it, and found unworthy of support by its premiere convention. Now let’s look at a furry happening that’s not so drastic, but more of a slow burn. It’s rare to see a career implode like that. UNCLE KAGE TV
Remember when Seinfeld was one of the biggest TV shows, and co-star Michael Richards derailed his career with a racist meltdown on stage? It happened at a comedy show, but it wasn’t part of the act.
UNCLE KAGE MOVIE
The movie is launching anyways on the con’s dates, without opportunities that could have won distribution. Now it’s among 70 furry cons canceled by COVID-19. It was due to bring $9.9 million to Pittsburgh’s economy in 2020. Sam Conway), the longstanding CEO and fandom public relations figure. Bad media is one kind, but not the only kind.
UNCLE KAGE PRO
It celebrates the roots with pro quality and appeal for outsiders who might not have given a fair look before.įor decades this subculture has thrived despite adversity. It features outstanding writers (like Joe), artists, animators, musicians, costume designers, event organizers and founders. In answer to this, The Fandom is a documentary made by the fans. That seems like damned if you do, damned if you don’t. But the show (with an asian-american woman journalist) got backlash while asking volunteers to raise their paws and be counted. Some asked why the 3 fans featured by CNN didn’t include more diverse people. Positive response didn’t satisfy every critic. Joe Strike’s Furry Nation is the essential fandom history book.
